Volunteers:
Docents and Restoration Workers

Volunteers

Over the past twenty years the Sand Man Foundation has been fortunate to have had many volunteers who have contributed their time and talent to the tugboat. Now that most of the physical restoration of the boat has been completed, we no longer have so much need for folks with construction skills - although there are always routine maintenance chores, such as cleaning and painting.

Now, our principal need for volunteers is to serve as docents when the boat is open to the public every weekend, year round. Docents open the boat, greet visitors and share some of the interesting history of Sand Man. It can be a very enjoyable time, if you like boats and like to meet the public. If you are interested in helping, drop by the boat any weekend (generally 11 am to 4 pm) and sign up.

No discussion of volunteers would be complete without mention of Paul Deranleau and Bob Powell. Bob was the fifth owner of the boat (1985- 1997); he was instrumental in forming the Foundation and continues to be a real leader of the group. Paul was a founding member of the organization and a long-time Board member; he was the principal supervisor of the restoration of the boat. Also, Ray Philen serves as webmaster and prepares information for this Internet site.
